Phase 3: Build & Manage

Phase 3 Build and Manage

The work gets built here. So does the buy-in.

Phase 3 is where your plans meet reality, and usually the longest stretch of the project. You'll drive the workplan, document how processes will change, and manage the build itself. At the same time, you'll keep working on the people side: communicating on schedule, building readiness, and addressing resistance. Projects that treat adoption as a launch-day task lose it here, weeks before launch.

Activities in this phase

3 activities, running for the length of the build. Duration varies by project.

Who's involved

You, your project team, process owners, and the people affected by the change.

By the end you'll have

A built and implemented solution, documented future-state processes, and people prepared for the change.

Phase checklist

You're done with this phase when…

  • The solution has been built, tested, and implemented
  • Future-state processes are documented and shared with the people who run them
  • Communication Plan activities are happening on schedule, not as an afterthought
  • Resistance is being surfaced and addressed, not ignored
  • Milestones, risks, and issues are actively tracked and managed
  • Your Sponsor is visibly engaged and regularly informed

Right-size it: Every project is different. Smaller, simpler projects may not need every activity, template, or step in this phase. Not sure what applies to you? Ask Stu or book office hours and we'll help you scale it to fit.
