A ten-second read of the room. When you need to know where a group stands right now, without a poll or a long discussion, Fist to Five turns a vague "everyone good?" into a clear, visible signal from every person in the room.
How it works
Ask the group to respond to a proposal by holding up a hand, from a closed fist to five fingers. Everyone shows at once, so you get an instant picture of support across the whole room. The number of fingers signals how much each person backs the proposal.
Fist (0)I block this "I have a serious objection and need us to stop and talk." |
1 FingerMajor concerns "I have real reservations and want to discuss them before we move." |
2 FingersSome concerns "I'd like to talk through a few things first." |
3 FingersI can live with it "Not my favorite, but I'll support it." |
4 FingersI support it "Good proposal, I'm on board." |
5 FingersWhole-hearted yes "I love it and will champion it." |
Reading the room: Anyone showing two fingers or fewer has concerns worth hearing before you proceed. A fist stops the decision until that person's objection is addressed. If everyone shows three or more, you have enough support to move forward.
